strawberry sorbet recipe

Strawberry Sorbet Preparation

Yes, I am crazy. I admit it. I’m making sorbet in the fall. This recipe should have been made in the summer, but it never occurred to me that I eat more ice cream, sorbet, and frozen yogurt in the colder months of the year. Maybe I am just weird like that, or it’s just because I love my frozen treats. Whatever it is, I love strawberry sorbet!

Heck, in our household, summer is practically all year long (regardless of the weather outside)! It can be below zero and guess what? We’re eating ice cream or other frozen confections.

It’s not exactly below zero, or even close to it, but it has been rather chilly outside and I did have some free time about a week or so ago. I went to our local supermarket and was surprised by how fresh and good-looking the strawberries were. The biggest thing that made me get the strawberries was that they were on sale… What would I do without things being on sale?

Strawberries

After thinking about what to make with the strawberries, I decided that I needed to make sorbet. Sorbet is probably one of the easiest things to make, and it is simply delicious. Of course, I took another challenge and decided to keep that ice cream maker in it’s place. Yes, this is another recipe without an ice cream maker required (but I have included directions if you do decide to make this in your ice cream maker)!

Sure, an ice cream maker would make this recipe nice and smooth, but for those of you who would rather not make this in an ice cream maker (or if you simply do not have one)- I’ve got an amazing strawberry sorbet recipe for you! It is relatively one of the easiest things to make and doesn’t require much effort at all for something simply irresistible.

Strawberry Sorbet Preparation

| strawberry sorbet recipe |

I managed to find fresh strawberries on sale at my local supermarket. I know, shame on me for not buying in season, but these were some awesome-looking strawberries (and they were on sale)!

Ingredients:
2 cups of water
1 cup of sugar
1 quart (about 1 ½ pounds) of fresh strawberries, de-stemmed
⅓ cup of fresh lemon juice
⅓ cup fresh orange juice

Preparation:
Stir 2 cups water and sugar in heavy medium saucepan over high heat until the sugar dissolves. Boil 5 minutes.

Working in batches, puree the de-stemmed strawberries in food processor / blender until smooth.

Hulled Strawberries

Add strawberry puree, orange and lemon juices to sugar syrup; stir to blend.

Lemon

Process strawberry purree mixture through a sieve. Cover and refrigerate until cold, about 2 hours.

Process strawberry mixture in ice cream maker according to manufacturer's instructions or place mixture in shallow container and freeze, stirring every hour until set, about 6 hours. (Can be made 3 days ahead. Cover and freeze in airtight container. If sorbet is frozen solid, place in refrigerator for 15 minutes to soften.)

Strawberry Sorbet

Enjoy!

Just fabulous. I love the colors of the sorbet. Are you kidding me, I love eating ice creams, sorbets during the colder months. I just don't know why. For me, these treats are eaten all year round. We're both crazy people. :)

Hi Kamran! This is a great post. Beautiful photos and an easy, accessible recipe. If I had raspberries on hand (even frozen ones) I would definitely try raspberry sorbet using your recipe. Nice to see another post from you!

Ooh! I found some awesome strawberries at the supermarket too, and I don't have an ice-cream maker so this is perfect. I love sorbet. And ice-cream. And popsicles. And frozen yogurt. And semifreddo. Anything frozen really :O)
This is wonderful, and your photos have left me longing for summer...

Ice cream and anything like it is definitely year round 'round here. Love the fact that you don't have to have an ice cream maker either.

Such a pretty sorbet! I'm still making sorbets too actually, the pom foam one and another one I didn't even post about.

Beauteous post, Kamran! Honestly, any season is the right season for ice cream, sorbet, sherbet, etc. No such thing as "too cold" for a frosty dessert!

There's nothing wrong with a sorbet in the fall. I like eating sold stuff in cold weather. I had a frozen yogurt the other night and it was pretty chilly out. lol.

It's been while since I've made some sorbet. I'll have to make some more again. Nice job without using an ice cream maker.

Yum... We like frozen desserts all year round, too! Even though it's fall, I'm loving this recipe, and the bright, beautifully colored photos were a nice change as I read through my RSS reader!

What a gorgeous blazing vermilion! I love this and I don't think you're crazy. I eat sorbet all winter long, sitting in front of the fire. Gotta live life and eat what you love.
Love how tasty this looks. In fact, it looks so good it could be fake- like the magazine food stylist do! I'm glad yours is real. That's one thing I love about food blogs.

This is one of the moments where I'm glad I live in Texas. (Did I just write that?) 8 months of HOT weather, 2 months of warm, and only 2 months of cold. (Some people may argue the cold part.)
I get to walk around with froyo and sorbets almost all year.

This looks delicious!! I totally understand the sorbet right now. I am always the weirdo in the group that goes to a coffee shop with my friends and orders and ICE blended mocha in the middle of the winter - Which winters in southern california is probably more like Fall to people in other places :-)

I definitely eat more ice cream during cold months (and tend to eat more soup during hot months...weird, I know). I think it may be because I savor it more (it's hard to scarf ice cream/sorbet when it's freezing)! YUMMY!

gorgeous photos! i'm a frozen dessert fanatic, so i'm with you that sorbet is not only meant for summer.

I understand about eating frozen desserts/ ice-creams the year round! And we're lucky to live in a part of the world where it is ice-cream weather throughout.
